#22 Fear or Faith: You Choose

If you ask me, I would say that there is a pandemic of fear in our nation. If you asked me, I’d also say that it is very very contagious.  Fear spreads and is therefore extremely dangerous. Fear is the opposite of Faith. Fear is battling against our faith. And only one will prevail. Inevitably the one we cultivate (by the amount of time we meditate upon the subject of our Fear or Faith) will win. All the while, every news source seems committed to feeding fear to our nation with constant crisis headlines.

The tool the devil uses to ignite fear is doubt. Hence we are told to take up faith to extinguish fear.

Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against …evil spirits in the heavenly places. Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy. … hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.  Ephesians 6:10-18 NLT
One of Satan’s major strategies is to ignite fear in our hearts.  Those fiery arrows listed in the scripture above are ones of doubt. The answer, hold up (declare, reinforce, exercise) faith. Let us put our faith in the nature of God, the truth He has revealed, and His promises. You can’t have trust in someone you don’t know. Our faith in God grows by hearing the word of God. The manifestation of love and truth can vanquish fear. The scriptures teach us how to use these weapons (Faith, Love, and Truth) in battle, especially when dealing with fear.
“For though we live in the body,  we do not wage war in an unspiritual way,  since the weapons of our warfare are not worldly,  but are powerful through God for the demolition of strongholds (false thought patterns). We demolish arguments and every high-minded thing that is raised up against the knowledge of God, taking every thought captive to obey Christ.”  2 Corinthian 10:3-5 HCSB (emphasis added)
Those verses offer a powerful strategy that we must enact to win this battle with fear. We need to re-frame our fears into statements of faith. For example, Fear; I don’t want to get Corona Virus. Re-frame it into a prayer of faith, Father it is the desire of my heart that I shall live all the days of my life without disease. Give me the exact health I need to fulfill all the assignments you have for me.

So how does all this translate to prayer?

1. Take control of the gateways to your soul (eyes and ears). Take every thought captive; take caution with what you are watching on TV, listening to on the radio, and reading online. In some cases just stop the flow. Change the channel or turn it off.
2. Take fear captive and displace with scripture-based thoughts.
3. Turn it into a prayer, Jesus taught us to pray, “deliver me from evil and lead me away from doubt and temptation.”
4. Re-frame your fear as outlined above.

Wisbit Tip #22

Faith will grow if you feed it scripture. Fear will wither when taken captive. Prayer Tip Twenty Two.  The power of God is unleashed in your life by re-framing every fear into a prayer of faith.

Standing is the suggested body position for Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, You said fear not. Instead give me a spirit of power, love, and self-control. As I delight in you today, I declare my heart’s desire is to walk in the health I need to fulfill all the good works you have assigned for me. Teach me how to pray. In Jesus Name Amen.

See you again soon,
