When God Calls His People to Prayer –  Pray 7:14

People ask, “Why would a loving God send any plague?” As soon as God’s people become prosperous, they historically forsake Him. So, God gets people’s attention through trials, thorns, and disasters. C.S. Lewis famously said, “Pain insists upon being attended to. God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our consciences, but shouts in our pains. It is his megaphone to rouse a deaf world.” When a pandemic strikes, God has picked up His megaphone.

Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

In honor of the National Day of Prayer, we will replace our format with the PRAY 7:14 Index.  Thanks to the 6:4 Fellowship, for taking leadership to offer a virtual N.D.O.P. alternative.  (Pray 7:14 adapted in part from 6:4 fellowship publication).

Notice in the verse above there are four things God tells us we must do and three things that God promises He will do. Take time now and let us pray through the index and not just read it.

1: Humble Ourselves-admitting our sin and acknowledging our needs. We come individually and collectively today to see our sins and turn from our pride. Please take time in prayer to pray through a personal revival. Ask God to break us of our pride across our nation.

2: PRAY – Ask the Lord to blanket our nation with a spirit of prayer. Pray that God will empower and bless every movement of prayer Pray that everyone from our national leaders to our children would join in prayer.

3: SEEK – We often seek God’s hand, wanting things from Him for ourselves. Spend today seeking God’s face. Look at Him and worship Him today. Ask Him to turn His face toward our land with favor. Pray the prayer of Numbers 6:24-26: The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord lift up His countenance on you and give you peace.

4: TURN – Our nation is filled with sins that grieve a holy God. Pray for a spirit of repentance across the church and our nation, that we will not merely acknowledge our sins, but turn from our sins. Our individual sins joined together, form our national sins.  What will you personally turn from today?

5. HEAR– Ask God today to hear the prayers of millions across our land. Ask that His “eyes will be open and His ear attentive” to the prayers of His people.

6: FORGIVE -Pray for a cleansing of the church and the nation. Pray specifically for God to wash over believers, churches, and our nation with a tidal wave of His forgiveness as we turn to Him. Pray that we would not trust in ourselves for this forgiveness but turn to the cross and embrace what Christ has done as our sure hope of forgiveness. Pray for national spiritual awakening, that millions who don’t know Him will awaken to their lost condition, cry out to God, and find His forgiveness.

7: HEAL – Pray for great healing across our land. Pray for healing of relationships, families, churches, and racial, cultural, and political division. Pray for national healing from the Coronavirus that is profound and visible.

“The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous person unleashes great power.”  James 5:16

Wisbit Tip #4

When God uses his megaphone of pain then it is time to seek him fervently. The ultimate purpose of trials is to turn us back to God. Prayer Tip Four. Radically eliminate hurry from your life and make daily room for God a priority. Perhaps the pain stops when we have integrated God back into our lives.

Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, I am called by your name and confess I’ve neglected you for too long. I have not loved you with all my heart, mind, soul, and strength. Have mercy, exchange my stony heart for a soft one. Give me the gift of repentance and the grace to seek your face. Teach me how to pray? In Jesus Name Amen.

See you again soon,
