#5 Unleash Power With Your Posture

Does it really matter to God what position I’m in when I pray? Isn’t prayer a matter of the heart?  God declares, “But the LORD said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The LORD doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart” 1 Samuel 16:7.  And yet, Jesus said, “For whatever is in your heart determines what you say” Matthew 12:34. It’s all a matter of the heart. In fact, what is in the heart is exposed and expressed through our words, deeds, attitudes, and posture. Jesus gave us an example of how hearts are revealed by accompanying posture. Notice, the outcomes are also different.

Two men went to the Temple to pray. One was a Pharisee, and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee prayed: ‘I thank you, God, that I am not like other people-cheaters, sinners, adulterers…But the tax collector stood at a distance and dared not even lift his eyes to heaven as he prayed. Instead, he beat his chest in sorrow, saying, ‘O God, be merciful to me, for I am a sinner.’ I tell you, this sinner, not the Pharisee, returned home justified before God.  Luke 18:10-13
The posture of the body can reflect the attitude of the heart. When the two are in alignment the result is breakthrough power. Bow the knee as you acknowledge your powerlessness and you’ll discover a key to unleash His power to you and through you. Body alignment adds humility and displays fervency.

“For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” Luke 18:14
God opposes the proud but gives his grace to the humble. We can cultivate grace in our lives by humbling ourselves. A simple way to do this is by changing our posture. Thoughtfully using the position of our body is to fan into flame our faith and create fervency in prayer.
